*The shock strength of energizers is measured in Joules. Our 0.5 Joule energizer represents a powerful shock strength in accordance with bear deterrence guidelines for portable electric fences. Whereas other portable electric fence energizers are usually rated at only 0.05 Joules, which is 10 times less. A very long energizer runtime on batteries usually indicates a low shock strength. Our fences are intended for black and brown bear deterrence.

"I bought my Standard Fence System August of 2024. Was having a continuing problem with Bears tearing up my Hot tub cover. Had to replace 3. I placed the fence around the tub and although I still get plenty of Bear visits, I have had no further damage to my tub. The beyond part of my title is because This Fall my energizer quit working. I got in contact with Bearwatch to purchase a new one. Mine was well out of warranty. I explained what I thought cause the malfunction. They were very responsive in wanting to know about it. Then to my surprise they replaced my energizer free of charge. All I had to do was pay for the shipping. "We bought the electric pulse fence a week before our Algonquin Park backcountry trip. Given its light weight it did not add much to our load (several significant portages of canoe and luggage). Setup was very easy and quick. The tester which was hard to read in bright sunlight worked very well in the lower light of the woods. My partner used to not sleep well on previous trips but knowing we had this fence around our tent made her sleep fearless and well - glad we purchased the system!"
"I used this system in the Brooks Range this fall in an area of high bear activity and had no problems with bears. The system is tidy and easy to set up, a big improvement over the UDAP fences. It is high energy which means that run times are limited. Using lithium AA's I was able to get the advertised ~40 hours. One suggestion is that the alligator clip supplied to connect to the grounding rod is much too small and the connection seems tenuous. This could be perhaps solved with a more suitably sized clip or by making the connection to the ground rod use a ring terminal on connected via a wing nut, similar to how the connections are made to the energizer"
